The 1870 Census has Abram as 27 and Carrie as 19. The reason we have suspected that his age was not correct is because Carrie was born in January 1840, which would have made h 30 years of age in 1870 when this Census was taken. Everyone on the page is a ditto for being born in AL. The 1880 Census has her as 30 and the 1900 Census has her as 55. Before she died, we use to correspond with Ida's Granddaughter, Shirely J. White Johnson.
We always joked that as the years went by Mary always got younger. She was the oldest child of William and Mary Crawford. I could never find Abram in any Census Records with the date 1843. On John Nathan's Death Certificate, all I can tell is that his father's name started with an "A". Some of the people filling out these records could not spell.
On the 1880 Census Records it has John and Ida's father born in Arkansas. John and Ida were both born in Macon County, AL. We have been there, and they lost most of the records in a fire. Mary moved to Talladega, AL, married William Pennington in 1874, and the children lived and died in Talladega County. Abram died between 1870 and 1874.
John Nathan Hooper's side of the family says he went to Macon, GA to a funeral of a relative, took sick and died.
The Ida side of the family said he went down near Montgomery to a funeral where he took sick and died. Both Macon County and Selma are near Montgomery, and we wondered if Macon County, AL may have been mixed up with Macon, GA.
